Twice the Venture

1) Throughout this class I have begun to think more and ore about the opportunities I see around me everyday. This specific opportunity is one I came up with this morning as I sat in my 10 am class being forced to pay attention because my phone was dead. I did what we all do, I forgot to change my phone. Sure, sure, if you get to class early you can sit next to an outlet, but you guessed it, I was 30 minutes late. The opportunity here is an easy, nonevent, and almost effortless way to ensure you phone is charged at all times.

Yes, there are portable chargers, phone charging cases, and power saver modes, but they each have their flaws and do not ENSURE a charged phone at all times. This opportunity is being presented in today's world because of the increase dependance and need for a constant connection to the internet, to communication, and to your work. The market of such an opportunity can be found it all developed countries where cellphones are more than common, but expected. If executed correctly and to the full capacity I have in mind, this product would change the way we use phones and make investors and my self rich. The window of opportunity for this idea is fairly short because the technology for this already exist and are on the brink of being made public and popular.

The creative solution for this opportunity is chagrinning through "Wifi". Wireless networks are everywhere and we are connected more to wifi than we are not. There are already ways to wirelessly charge your phone, but not through your own specific wifi router. If you can have a router at your home, work or even school, you can practically have continuos access to power without cords and power. Crazy, I know, but by using the technology that already exist with wifi and focusing on moving power through wireless connection, it can be done. What I would be selling are wireless routers that charge anyones phone who is connected to do it. This means guests, friends, families, students, clients, workers and many more can always have access to the internet and the information they need.

I believe the price of this product would be higher than people expect, but when put into perspective is not that much compared to other products. As of now, people own chargers, portable chargers, cases, and much more than breaks monthly and stye spend a lot of money on. This same money, when put towards my product, will be the same if not more. So by creating an easier way to charger your phone, you can save money with the initial investment. This product will compete with other products because no other product can guarantee 24/7 charging capability.

What is next for this opportunity is finding funding, finding a testing base, and most importantly finding someone who has the knowledge to create this because I do not. I think the secret sauce of this product is it is coming into an already developed market with a new idea. What I mean by this is the market for wifi and the market for phones already exist. I do not have to sell people on buying phone or internet, they already have it and already need it. I am presenting an add on to already accepted and trusted ideas. Lastly, I do not see this idea remaining my idea. I do not have the ability, experience or background to take this idea from start to finish. I do know that big companies and technology developers, who have the skills to create this, would love to keep the idea to itself.

So, the moral of the story is Wifi Charging needs to be the next big thing or I will have to continue paying attention in class.

2) The other people in my group recommended that I focus more on one specific idea verse the big picture. If I go into an idea with too much and too many ideas, it could fail very quickly. By starting off simple and then adding new features as time goes on, consumers will stay engaged and I will be more successful.

3) I changed my venture by focusing more on the technology part of this idea. I feel like the first time I did this I felt it was nearly certain this was possible. This is a new idea and is technology that hasn't been invented. I will need a lot of money and people to create this and I need to focus more on that.

Final

1) Read through your posts from this semester. Recall all of the experiences you've had a long the way -- the highs, the lows -- the fun moments, and the moments of drudgery, and even the moments of dread.
The parts I hated them most was the elevator pitches. I enjoy speaking and talking to people, but the format was creepy. Maybe it was just me, but I felt weird.

2) What sticks out to you as the most formative experience? The experience that you'll remember years later? What was your most joyous experience? What experience are you most proud of yourself for accomplishing?
I learned the most from the format of the class. The blogs were a fun way to see your progress through out the class. Usually in a class you submit an assignment and can never seen it again. I can't build off of it, see what I did wrong, or even ask the teacher about it. The blogs allow us to do all three of those.

3) At the beginning of the semester, I mentioned that I wanted each of you to develop an entrepreneurial mindset. Now, at the end, do you see yourself as an entrepreneur? Do you think you have moved closer to developing an entrepreneurial mindset?
100%. I thought I already thought like an entrepreneur, but after this class I see that was not true. I know can quickly find opportunities and its a fun skill to have.

4) What is the one recommendation you would make to the students who are going to journey down this path in the future? What would you recommend they do to perform best in this course? What would you recommend they do to foster that mindset?
I recommend to other students to do all the assignments. If you miss a week of assignments you lose a letter grade and that is rough. Be careful with the points and keep track of them.

Exit Strategy

Here's what you should do and write up for your post:
1) Identify the exit strategy you plan to make. Do you intend to sell your business in the next 5 years for a large return? Do you intend to stay with the business for several decades and retire? Do you intend to protect the venture as a family business, and pass it down to your children?
Although I like this idea and think it would make going out a lot easier for a lot people, I do not think I can keep it going. This app has already been invented and the other companies have a huge head start on the market. I do not think I have the experience or the knowledge to catch up to these other apps.
2) Why have you selected this particular exit strategy?
I chose this options for reasons above and because I don't have the time to do this idea. I work two jobs and go to school, this idea needs someone who is invested and focused on this idea.
3) How do you think your exit strategy has influenced the other decisions you've made in your concept? For instance, has it influenced how you have identified an opportunity? Has it influenced your growth intentions or how you plan to acquire and use resources?
Yes. I would have chosen a different answer had the people who came to class for FOMO came. I have the same product as them and after seeing where they are, I found it I am too far behind.

Fail lol

1) Tell us about a time this past semester that you failed -- The biggest fail of the semester is the fact that my exact idea was talked about in class by the guests speakers. I worked with this idea for weeks on weeks and look at that, it already exist! I figured it may, but didn't count on it being talked about in class.
2) Tell us what you learned from it.  -- This failure showed me that you can have ideas and want to start a business, but someone may have beaten you to it. This doesn't mean stop or give up, it means make your business better. I know several things and have several ideas that will boost my business past the "FOMO" app that was talked about in class. We all have different looks, insights, and backgrounds that give us different ideas and concepts for our businesses. I have different things that can be done with this app that will put FOMO out of business ;)
3) Finally, talk about how this class has changed your perspective on failure -- are you more likely to take a risk now than you were just a few months ago? -- I used to hate failing and I think people are weak when they fail. This idea has changed to an extent, but that much. Failure is only possible if you give up. You may lose, be unsuccessful and much more, but if you don't give up, than you did not fail. My business has hit a road block, but I do not consider it  failure just yet because I know I can improve the idea. Failure is only possible if you accept it, so although I may be a little nicer now, failure is a choice and you can prevent it, no matter how low you think you may be!

Get Spaced 27!!!!

Elon Musk is a crazy dude doing things I can’t even understand. He has been able to single handily recreate, revive, and empower the space exploration programs in the United Satiates. To understand just what Elon Musk is doing, one needs to understand what the United States ISNT doing.

The “race to space” is a slower one now a days, but one that is more expensive than ever before. Elon Musk, not coming from the best family background, was able to not only have the ideas to make his space empire bigger, but the financial backing. The most interesting thing I learned from this reading is how hard and long Elon Musk works to do what he does. One of the questions is what do you think the author thinks about hard work, and I think it can go without saying that Musk expects and requires handwork from anyone who is going to get near any of his projects.

I terms of this class sand business, it is encouraging to see that even the craziest ideas can work when thought out and the work is put in. Musk tried to start an independent space exploration company right after the United States began to give up on space and it’s NASA program. With good planning and a business model, Musk was able to make this insane idea successful. So, with a small scale app like mine, I should be able to make it work, right? Ahhh, we will see.

What Next Boy?

Existing Market.
Step 1: I believe that this product is what's next for this specific market. People go out all of the time and want to enjoy their time. When consumers enjoy their time, the spend more, come back more often, and tell friends. This app, when supported by many business, restaurants, bars, and clubs, will benefit the businesses that are better and cheaper. This is a benefit for the consumer and the places because more money and more enjoable trips when you go out.
Step 2: After interviewing customers, in this case my friends that I go with, they were unsure what was next. The all responded that they have never thought about before, but when they started thinking, they shared some interesting ideas. One of my friends mentioned a signup idea much like the study rooms in the library. If you are going with friends or a group, you can pay ahead on an app to reserve the time you will get there and get in. This means that for 10:00, the place will let X number of people in and if yo are those people you don't have to wait in line or anything. This is similar to being pretended, but this time it is all done electronically and ahead of time to ensure you don't have to wait in line.
Step 3: I still think my idea iso n the right track, but after interviewing people, I see the potential for future expansions on the idea as the business grows. These include uber, food, payments, licenses, and much more.
New Market.
Step 1: The idea I have been developing throughout this class focus on college students who go out. This is a very specific or stereotypical class if you think about it. For my new market, I want to focus on the food industry that could appeal to everyone but for now appeal to the people who are knowledgeable or aware pf GMOs. The opportunity is an easy way to identify when your food has GMO's because it not required to label all GMO's.
Step 2: My solution is an edible spray that changes colors when your food consist of GMO's. This product has value with its consumers because GMO's are a hot political topic around the world today. One side once all GMO's labeled while the other side a little less. This pray will allow those who absolutely do not want to eat GMO's to be able to make that decision. It also allows those who are interested or concerned to do the same. Most importantly, do it all very easily.
Step 3: For these interviews I chose one person that I know cares about the labeling or GMO's and someone who I know doesn't. The one who was knowledgeable about GMO's loved the idea and the product and said she believed that would be a big market for a new product such as this. The other person I interviewed seems confused and to not really care about GMO's
Step 4:  These interviews showed me that the idea may not be as big as I thought and may only appeal to a specific group of people. I believe this idea is still important and can have a place in this market, but needs more support, advertising and backing. This support could come from big organizations like U.S. Right to Know or other GMO affiliated groups, whether they support them or not.

Venture Concept #1

Throughout this class I have begun to think more and ore about the opportunities I see around me everyday. What are ya resources?

  • Generate a list of all of the resources in your venture (produce a list of at least 10 resources that you already possess). This can include your human capital, social capital, financial capital, and capabilities. You may also discuss the organizational culture you intend to create (but, obviously, it's not a resource that you have, now.)
    • I believe I have a high social capital because of the University and community I am surround by. I have a lot of opportunities and contacts through my work experience that will allow me to find resources that I need to make this app successful.
    • Because of the team I will be able to create, this app also has a large human capital backing it. I know dozens of creative, artistic, and smart individuals that will be apart of the team to put this together.
    • The over head for this is also very low which is a financial advantage for this opportunity. Since it is an app, there does not need to be a building and everything that comes along with owning a business space.
    • The ability to actually create this app is also an important detail to perfect. In my case, I have a best friend who has already told me he can create this and more for future expansions of the app.
    • All of this cost money, but because of my status as a student and a majority of the workers being young, energetic, ambitious, poor, college students, and friends, money is not need in the same amount as if professionals were hired.
    • This product also has a large range of areas, people, and ages to attract. This will give it the longevity it will need to turn investments into profit for investors and myself.
    • I also believe that there is a special intellectual resources because I have started and run a business before. I know the ins and outs of what it means to not only run a business, but run a business with other young workers.
    • Another Human Resources that can be found because of where I live are the people I can use to promote this. For example, college students do not want 80 year men handing out flyers for this app; they want young, attractive and fun college students. Luckily for me, there is an abundance of eager college students willing to work.
    • Going off of the last point, to make a business successful you need workers. For s art up business like this, a lack of workers is not something you want to deal with. Fortunately enough, there will be no shortage for workers in Gainesville.
    • Lastly, the money to pay the works that are hired. I am not rich, sadly, but I have access too investors through my past business successes, my family contacts, and even committee friends. Money is crucial in this start up and I know I can raise what is needed.
  • My best resources is my access to college students. Through college students I have a study work base that will work for less than other sources. College students are also the target audience of this product so being able to use attractive and fun students, the right audience will be reached.

Social Capital

1) One person must be a domain expert in your industry. TThe industry expert for my idea would be someone who knows why people go to bars. My uncle owns a bar in Tallanasty so I gave him a call and asked just what he did to get people to go to his bar. He said that people want to be able to go to a clean place where they feel safe, comfortable and can have fun at a cheap price. This is exactly what my app is trying to promote to its consumer. I told him about my app and he said that he believes there is something similar like this out there, but it doesn't have the full capacity an potential of my idea. What I want to do is more than review good bars, it is let you know what that bar is like in that exact moment in time; not what it was like when a random girl named Abby from Michigan was there 5 years ago.
2) One person must be an expert on your market. This person is also a little unconventional. For this interview I talked to my friend who is a club promoter for a place here in Gainesville. He gave me similar information to what my uncle gave me, but I also learned something new. He said that when they are promoting clubs, bars, events and certain nights, they are targeting a certain type of person. For example, if there is a huge EDM DJ coming to town, they are not going to go to the local spin class and invite all the moms, they are going to the college campus and handing stuff out. This is valuable for my app, because eventually users could put in their demographics and preferences and bars and clubs will begin to be recommended to them with local events that the app knows are coming up.
3) One person must be an important supplier to your industry. This last person I chose is a small time DJ in Gainesville and performs at festivals as well. I chose this person because in order for a DJ to be successful, people have to go to the club, hear their music, and eventually download their music. I told the DJ bout my app and he started spitting out ideas about advertisement, show promos and much more. These are all great ideas and all attainable through this app.
What constitutes 'contact'? I believe that contact can happen in many ways. In this case, I called my uncle and then my two friends I just went to their house. In the business world, technology has made it possible to talk to people and make deals without ever actually meeting them. This why social connection are bigger than ever before. I can know one person that can hook me up with someone across the country who I will never meet, but can still help me. This assignment showed me that "contact" is easy, but people just do not utilize all the social connections they actually have.

Reading Reflection 2

In this exercise, I'd like you to select a book from the second half of the Official ENT 3003 Reading List and report on it.

For this reading reflection I decided to go with "How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big" by Scott Adams. I chose this book because its title caught my eye. I was really interested in what the author would have to say about being to fail and still be a winner. The main thing I took way from this book was the author's view on being "selfish". Of course, he doesn't mean only pay attention to yourself and be man, but instead to prioritize your health, your well being, your economics, and much more before you decide you have the time to give to everyone else. This speaks to me, and I'm sure many other, because I try to do everything for everyone else before I do anything for myself. This has effected my eating, sleeping and health. I am sure I am not alone in this because it is just who we are ash humans, we try to help people. This book opened my eyes to the fact that in order to succeed in what YOU WANT, you have to actually put what YOU WANT first. This may seem selfish, hence the name, but it is just what has to be done to ensure your business succeeds. This book is a perfect fit for this class because we are coming up with ideas, but of course we want these ideas to succeed and this book tells you just how to do that.

Napkin #2

1) You. My name is Edson Abadia and I am a second year political science major, soccer coach, uncle, brother, and entrepreneur. My aspirations are to become a lawyer one day, but for now, I am here developing this opportunity. I hope this idea is something that can take off one day. Maybe I won't be the one to do it, but I think it is something that we need in this world. If I were to start this, I think I would have to focus on this solely which I am not ready for. Because of my work experience I have been able to develop people skills and work on a variety of projects at the same time and meet deadlines.
2) What are you offering to customers? I am offering an app that will let consumers know how long lines are at bars, how much cover is, any drink specials and much more. Eventually, I'd like for this app to be able to have a link with something like apple pay where you can pay the bars straight from the app and pay cover before hand. I would also like something arranged with Uber where rides can be directly ordered from the app and even planned out. I would also like for drivers license to be able to be uploaded to the app so that no body has to carry a wallet when they go out anymore.
3) Who are you offering it to? This product would be more towards college students because they are the ones who go out often and there is usually a centralized "strip" of bars where they go out. Older individuals, although they go out, do not go to bars and clubs as much where there would be cover and lines.
4) Why do they care? Consumers will pay for this because nobody likes to wait in lines, not know how much cover is, or buy a drink when there are drink specials you don't know about.
5) What are your core competencies? I believe that my determination will be what makes this idea work. I do not take no for answer, so if I believe in an idea, it will come to life however possible. I use my connections and value my time which allows me to take the skills of everyone around me to make sure I have the best work done in each segment. I realize I cannot create an app and I realize I cannot do graphic design, but I know people that I can and I know I can get it done. This will be crucial as this app launches and as it develops over time and adds to components.
I believe my elemental fit together and that I know the people and have the resources to make every element of this idea work. Since my last post, my idea hasn't changed much, but I have taken some criticism to change the way I wrote this napkin. Mainly on how I present myself. I have a lot of good quality, but I do not share those enough to convince a consumer to buy my product. In order to convince a consumer to buy a product, they have to believe and trust you. I am able to do this in person, but on paper not as much. That is why I have added a little more "self promoting" this time to convince my consumers to buy my product over the next one.

15A Buyer Behavior

The product I have chosen to develop is interesting for this assignment because there are no formal ways to do what I am doing. If people want to know the line or how much cover is for a bar or club for the night, they have to call or hope a friend is there to tell them. When I interviewed people, these are the exact answers they gave me. I asked why and which they preferred and they all said asking their friends because they felt annoying when they call the places. They also said they would chose to ask friends because their friends would also give more information on what the crowd was like and if it would be fun. This gave me an idea on how to make the app a little more personal. People can post about what the atmosphere is like at places, how many people are there, if the music sucks and so forth. This section can be described as, for my situation, a good idea of what purchase decisions a customer is considering when wanting to know how long lines are at bars and much more.

Tenacity - 14A

I think one of my weakness is taking advise and listening to other peoples concerns and ideas. This class has taught me to accept my peers and outsiders inout to improve my product. I think this is because I do not know all of the segments or parts of my idea, and it takes a group of minds to fully make an idea come to life. Future students should know that whatever idea they choose, but ready for it to change. Also, when you do your blog, try to think hard about what you’re writing because you will sometimes come up with new and better ideas.

Reading Reflection

Steve Jobs, Walter Isaacson
The most interesting thing I learned about Steve Jobs is that he had an interest in Zen Buddhism. We all know Steve Jobs for his technological accomplishments, but we don't know much about his personal life. I admire that Jobs was fully invested in his products from the idea to the final product. The biography talks about how Jobs was picky about every color, screw and detail of every product.
The reading talks about how Jobs was mean to people sometimes because of his perfectionism. This is something I would not have expected from Jobs, but this investment is what made his products good and make his employees work so hard. It is obvious that Jobs respects hard work and those who are committed to their ideas and skills.

Buyer Behavior

Pick a segment: For this, I chose to split my idea into a few segments. The one I want to focus on for this is the technological segment of my idea. What I mean by this is the speed of the app, the user friendliness of the app and much more. One thing I hate when I use an app is when it is slow or hard to use. This segment will allow me to see how well the technology itself is working for the company.

After interviewing three people I found a lot of similarities in where they may need the product. They all said when they go out to bars and clubs and don’t want to wait in lines. When asked about if they ever tried to find a solution, 2 of the 3 said yes. They both searched for products online, but what they had in mind never popped up. Google only gave them phone numbers of the places to call and ask. The three people agreed that this opportunity existed and wanted to learn more. I was also interested to know how fast the consumers of this product would expect the service to be. They all agreed that it should be as fast as possible because when you are out, you have to move quick or you’ll lose your friends and get lost.

Napkin

1) You. Who you are. What your talents are. What your skills and experiences are. My name is Edson Abadia and I am a second year political science major, soccer coach, uncle, brother, and entrepreneur. MY aspirations are to become a lawyer one day, but for now, I am here developing this opportunity. I hope this idea is something that can take off one day. 5) What are your core competencies? WI think I will be able to execute this idea because I have run ab business before and my role in my job requires a lot of management skills. I see pass just the basic ideas and understand the complexity that is behind each and every point of an idea.
I believe that my idea in it's most simplest form is its strongest. Dealing with just the lines, cover, and deals. When you begin to add U
ber, apple pay, licenses and much more, there are a lot of gray areas that I do not know. I do not know the market for something like that, and even if I did, I do not think I have the time, expertise or motive to take this app to the next level. In other words, I would start the business with its basic level and then sell out to someone who then has all the materials and expertise it takes to take this app to the next level.

Testing - 9A

Again, I'd like you to conduct five interviews. I'd like you to find people who, all else considered, should have the unmet need you have identified, but, for whatever reason, do not. These people will not be the same 5 people from Part 1. I'd like you to try to draw conclusions based on:
Person 1: 20 year old male
A 20 year old male is the ideal person for this unmet opportunity, but this individual did not feel the opportunity was there. He felt that no mater what people are going to bring a wallet of their ID's and cards. This made me think, maybe this is a bigger opportunity for females, but males would still benefit.
Person 2: 45 year old female
This individual is a mom who rarely goes out. I picked her because I figured moms do not go out as much as college kids, and I was right. She said that she would not need this app because when she goes out it is to restaurants and is never getting too crazy where she would lose her wallet. She also shared that she does not get ID'd so she doesn't feel the necessity to always have access to her ID like on an app.
Person 3: 23 year old female
This female is a law student, and therefore said she does not go out as much as she use to in undergrad. She felt that the opportunity is there, but not for someone like her. She also said she does not drink so when she goes out she does not run into the problem of losing her wallet or anything.
Person 4: 70 year old female
This individual is a grandmother and said she no longer goes out. IF she goes out it is maybe a drink at a restaurant but rarely. Restaurants are not the ideal business for this opportunity, it is mainly clubs and bars with college students. This means the opportunity is not there for people of all ages, just a target audience
Person 5: 18 year old male
This individual is under the age of 21 and is therefore not old enough to drink. If an app was invented to fill this opportunity, fake ID's would not work. This 18 year old likes to go out and drink and such an app would not make that possible. Therefore the app to fill this opportunity may not be for individuals under the drinking age trying to sell that they are over the age of 21.

Who: The target audience of this opportunity seems to be targeted more towards a specific audience such as 18-25 year olds. The population under 21 has to be a group that does not care to go under age and the population over 21 has to be one that goes out a lot and feels they lose their things when they go out.
What: This opportunity differs from incentives to go out and is more an assistance to make going out easier for the consumer and more enjoyable. This is not an opportunity to make ore people go out, but instead to make those people that go out safer.
Why: The needs of the people who do not see this opportunity is just simply not there. This opportunity is for people who go out a lot. If you do not go out a lot, you probably would not need this. You may have it so when you do go out you can check line size, wait time, and much more, but it is not the same as if you go out every night.
Inside the boundaryOutside the boundary
College students 18-25Adults over the age of 25
seem to be out.
The need is to help make
going out more fun, easier,
and better planned.
They are not interested in lines
and cover because they do not
go out often
This exist because lines, cover,
popularity, and much more
is unknown

When we go out we hate waiting
and then finding out that it cost a lot
more money than we want to spend

Goat Parties - 18A

1) My selected opportunity has to do with people going out to mid town and losing their wallets or forcing all the guys to carry everything. Party like a goat and forget having to worry about where your wallet, money, credit card, and ID are.

2) The first solution to this problem I came up with is an app. This app would have your driver's license (approved and certified), a scan way to pay for cover and drinks (possibly even paying cover before you arrive), a way to show how long the wait is at places and how busy it is, and much more.

The second solution takes advantage of one part of this opportunity, the cash. When we go out, we often have to go get cash out before we go to the bars or clubs. This is just annoying. So a solution is a group that sits around mid and downtown that has cash and when you need cover you just venmo or cashapp the company and they give you cash.

Economic/Regulatory Opportunities

1) Economic Trends -
Steep Gas Prices on the South Fork Draw More Than a Shock

Pinning Down the Money Value of a Person’s Life
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/11/business/businessspecial3/11life.html

Regulatory Changes -
Washington D.C. Marijuana Information

Penalty Inflation Adjustments for Civil Monetary Penalties
https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2018/01/12/2018-00487/penalty-inflation-adjustments-for-civil-monetary-penalties

2) List each opportunity, one at at time.
  1. I found the first opportunity while browsing the New York Times and is something I have actually thought about quite often. There is a huge opportunity in the energy business and in this case the gas industry. Gas prices, although recently stabilized, often go through periods of high prices. When these prices are high, there is an opportunity for someone to figure out how to offer a lower gas price or stop the gas prices from rising. This opportunity is for everyone because we all use gas. Personally, I drive out of town 3 or 4 times a week and cheaper and a consistent price of gas would be very helpful.
  2. This next opportunity is valuing someone’s life. We all are guilty of looking up how much Kim Kardashian or Nick Jonas is worth, but do we know how much we are worth. The opportunity is for adults for the most part, but personally I would enjoy knowing how much I am worth. This information can be value when assessing what happens when you die, decisions made, and much more. I also found this opportunity while reading the New York Times.
  3. It is no secret that weed is making the news everywhere recently. Besides the fact that this is a multi-billion dollari industry and opportunities are flying up everywhere, this specific opportunity would benefit weed smokers in Washington D.C.. In D.C. you can buy two ounces of weed at once, but you can’t sell it, smoke it on federal land, only grow 6 plants, and many more regulations. D.C. is a place for tourism and tourist do not know this information. The opportunity here is finding a way to share these regulations with tourist easily so they do not get in trouble and enjoy their weed experience in D.C..
  4. This last opportunity is one for people who receive social security benefits. This article talks about how the civil monetary penalties is changing. The opportunity is helping, educating and assisting those who receive social security benefits. People who receive social security often do not have another source of income. In order to help people who receive social security, they can be told what they are entitled to through social security and how to properly save this money with the changing regulations and such.

3)  I saw a majority of these opportunities and looked at the max educational opportunities. I am a soccer coach and both my parents are teachers. I have been and still am surrounded by education. In this cases, it seems that things are changing and people aren’t being probably educated about the changes. I also chose the value of someone’s life opportunity because I am always looking up how much people are worth, but have no idea how that information is found or how I can find out how much I am worth. It would be fun to be able to calculate that on your own.

Drinking Buddies

For this exercise, I'd like you to do the following:
1) An app for when you want to go out with friends. "Drinking Buddies"
2) When college students go out, we hate having to bring an ID, a credit card, cash, our phone, a second form of ID and much more. As a guy, I hate when girls ask me to cary their stuff, so this is an opportunity to end guys having to carry girls things when we go out. This app would also tell you what the cover is, the wait time, how busy it is, any specials the venue is having, and could possibly even be linked to Uber and have scheduled rides for you and friends.
  • The who: College Students in the US (anyone who goes out to bars or clubs)
  • The what: When people go out they have to bring a lot of things with them which can result in theft, losing things, and just plain annoyance
  • The why: We need several items when going out to club or bars
3) This is your 'hypothesis' about the opportunity. It is a statement of your belief related to an opportunity. I'd like you to test the boundaries of the hypothesis by pushing and prodding each of the three elements. That means:
  • Testing the who: I think college students have more of a need for something like this in college towns, but I am sure that adults and non-college students that go out would enjoy something to help with this.
  • Testing the what: I think a boundary to consider is will clubs and bars be on board with this, so the question is, is it all bars and club, or just some?
  • Testing the why: I think this benefits the consumer more than the bars and clubs. People who hate carrying so many things when going on would enjoy this app because they wouldn't have to do it anymore. The bars and clubs, although not as benefitted, would enjoy this because they could see the consumers ID and second form of ID all on one app that has an ID and other info pre-approved. This would eliminate fake id's a little more.
4) After interviewing people, I found that this is actually a big opportunity for something like this in college towns. I interviewed 4 college students, 2 girls and 2 guys, 2 who go out often and 2 who go out rarely. I also interviewed a 28 year old who is graduated from college and goes out sometimes with friends. The main benefit that the people I interviewed saw from this was the fact that they wouldn't have to carry all of their stuff around. This app would have your credit card, your ID, your second form of ID, and any other info you need when going on. This would make it so you can't lose your credit card, ID or wallet when you go out, it is all on your phone.
The guy and girl who went out often also enjoyed knowing what places were having what deal and how much it was to get in. When I go out, I hate waiting in line and then getting to the door and finding out it is expensive to get in. By knowing how long the line is, the deals being offered, and how busy it is, you can spend more time partying and less time waiting in line to pay an absurd cover.
The guy and girl who do not go out often, said they would enjoy this app because they do not like going out because they are afraid of losing things. Since all the info you will need to get into anywhere will be on this app, there is no fear of losing your wallet or ID anymore.
The 28 year old woman I interviewed also enjoyed knowing what was busy and what wasn't. When she goes out, she isn't always looking for a crazy party scene, but sometimes a calm place to get drinks with friends. Knowing what is busy and what is not you can take your coworkers to a certain place, your ladies to another place, and your date to another place just by knowing what the deals are and how busy it is.
5) One thing not discussed yet is the amount of cooperation this would take from the bars and clubs to be a success. How I would get around this sell the bars and clubs on their benefit of being a supporter of this app. Less ability for people to use fake ID's, easier and faster to ring people up when they buy drinks, and fewer thefts of ID's and wallets. This opportunity is one for the consumer, but I think the bars and clubs can also benefit from something like this in the long run.

Local Problems

I am from Daytona Beach so I took the Daytona Beach News Journal and looked for possible opportunities.

1) Transgender high school student sues Volusia Schools
-This article is about a transgender boy suing my old school district for not letting him use the boys bathroom and locker room.

-This opportunity is more to help people who are going through similar situations. One of the biggest news topics and political questions is behind transgender rights, so what can be done to help this community and possibly create a business out of it. The need here is education for school faculty and staff. A group could offer a service where they have a "learning session" with the teachers where they ask and answer tough questions that teachers are afraid to ask other places.

http://infoweb.newsbank.com.lp.hscl.ufl.edu/resources/doc/nb/news/169AA82E1BA247A0?p=WORLDNEWS

2) Rolex's modern-day surge
- The main thing people know about Daytona is it's beaches and the Speedway. People who live in Daytona hate race week because you can't leave your house because the traffic is so bad and it is not worth it.

- The problem here is how to better handle race traffic to make it so locals can still get to where they need to go. This would benefit locals and visitors, because both would be stuck in less traffic.

http://infoweb.newsbank.com.lp.hscl.ufl.edu/resources/doc/nb/news/169AA82E4BF50CE8?p=WORLDNEWS

3) Annual homeless count underway
- This article, with its messed up title and all, is about Volusia and Flagler county trying to count exactly how many homeless people there are in the counties. Could have named the article Annual count of homeless PEOPLE underway, but anyways.

- The opportunity here is, and one I think that the survey met well, is providing an incentive for homeless people to take this survey.

http://infoweb.newsbank.com.lp.hscl.ufl.edu/resources/doc/nb/news/169A54AD07C98BA8?p=WORLDNEWS

4) Felon's rights proposal goes on November ballot
-This article is about how Rick Scott is being Rick Scott and has done very little to  help anyone, in this case felons. Felons can go in front of a board, including Rick Scott, and ask for their right to vote back. Scott has allowed a couple of hundred in his first term to get their rights back, while Charlie Crist allowed 1500 in his terms (not exact numbers but I just watched something about it).

-The opportunity here is for lawyers. Once this bill is passed by the good people of Florida, there will be a high high high high high demand for all the felons that Rick Scott has denied to get their rights back and I am sure there will be push back from the State so lawyers and other representatives will be needed to help these people get their voting rights back.

5) All DeLand police officers using body cameras
-This article is about, you guessed it, Deland police officers using body cameras.

-The opportunity here was actually prior to the cameras, which was how to proof when a cop is doing something right and when they are doing something wrong. Body cameras were able to plug that opportunity and will now leave police officers safe to false accusations, and citizens safe to possible mistakes made by police. Both parties win!

OH SH*T BREAKS

1) A problem I see around me is there are a lot of fender benders and just crashes in general. When I am driving I find it hard to judge if the person in front of me is either slamming their brakes or just lightly hitting on them. (Solution to problem will be shared at the bottom)

2) The unmet need is something to indicate when someone is car is slamming their breaks to differentiate from when they are just hitting on their breaks for now good reason. This need is for everyone, but mainly for bad drivers who can't decide if they need to gradually hit their breaks or hit them as hard as they can to screw over the person behind them. This need is fairly new considering cars aren't hundreds of years old. I feel that people are content with how cars are functioning for the most part. We keep adding shiny tires and lights under the car, but no one has changed the brakes in a hot minute. Before the seat belt, everyone probably thought the car was safe enough. Before back up cameras, everyone probably thought they could see behind them. And now, everyone is content with one signal for break lights. I am 100% that this opportunity exists but very few people will support it because everyone thinks break lights are ok and don't need to be changed.

3) The prototypical costumer is really every person with a drivers license. Therefore, I think it would be best for a person from a variety of age ranges would be representative of a quality prototypical costumer base. Some youngsters who drive crazy, some moms who drive safe, and some old people and are not as "good" at driving.

4) My costumers have asked to stay confidential for the sake of their safety. Their names have been changed and voices altered...

-Cruzin' Chris - Age 22 - Male - Consideres himself a fast driver
When "Cruzin' Chris", will be called Chris for this, was asked about this need his first response was "I just rear ended someone last week!". Chris believes that break lights do not tell you how fast someone is slowing down and therefore caused him to misjudge how fast he needed to slow down which caused him to hit the car in front of him last week. Chris said he never really thought about break lights not being an efficient enough way to indicate stopping until he got in his crash. Cruzin' Chris believes there is an opportunity for something to improve the break lights on cars.

-Margret the Mom - Age 38 - Female - Hunks at people who cut her off
Margret the Mom, when first asked about her thought on break lights, felt she didn't look at people's break lights because she can see over all the cars in her Escalade. When asked if she felt there was a need for improvement, she did not think so and felt break lights were just fine.

- Grandpa Garfield - Age 84 - Male - Doesn't drive much
Grandpa Garfield doesn't drive much because of his age, but feels break lights are not of his concern. Didn't really care about break lights and said he never really thought about them

5) I learned actually what I already knew, people are, for the most part, content with how current break lights work because they just don't care. If it's not broken why fix it they say, but I respond with if it's not the best, why not make it better. Hundreds and thousands of people die in car crashes each year, and what if I told you a couple of dollar change in break lights could shrink that number tremendously, interesting right...

7) My original opportunity is still there, and I believe my solution is brilliant and just needs more people to believe in it. In the end, break lights won't become a problem until people start realizing we can do better. Alright so here is the solution...

You or a loved one ever been rear ended or hit someone else from behind in a car??? Well, this will never happen again with "OH SH*T BREAKS"! We all know red lights on the back of a car mean stop, but what about blue lights??? Never slam your breaks again for someone who keeps pressing their breaks on the highway for now good reason at all, just keep riding their tail till they leave the fast line. Ever scared the person in front of you will slam their breaks, but then you get around them and there's no one in sight, well never again! The new and blue "OH SH*T BREAKS" let you know if you actually need to slam your breaks or if you can relax and just keep on driving.

The End...

Assignment 3A – Your Entrepreneurship Story

Like most 15 year olds, I was itching to get my license and drive to wherever I wanted. Unfortunately, I had no car, no money, and parents that were not going to just give me a car. When I put on my sweetest face and sucked up to my parents begging for a car, all they said was "you can buy it yourself." So, I did what any kid would do, I started my own business.

I was in a graphic arts and design class that I found myself enjoying very much. The class allowed me to be creative and make random things, but I knew I could do more. Instead of creating random and weird projects, I decide I could turn my 4th period class into a business.

I am very active in the soccer community, so I had a market of people I could sell my product to. I started with making costume stickers for cars and this quickly turned into personalized shirts, sweatshirts, and even professional ware. After a couple of months, I was able to make enough to buy my first car, a 98' Honda Civic. A crappy car, but one that could get me from my house to my friends' houses. Once I saw the success of the business I had started, I gave it a name and continued working until I was able to get enough money to buy my computer, gifts for my family, and save for college. EA Custom Stickers was a three year long company, but will forever be what funded my teenage desires.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

This class was recommended to me by a friend who said she very much enjoyed this class. I look forward to learning about entrepreneurship and continue thinking about how I can be

an entrepreneur in whatever I do. I've attached a screenshot of a project I worked on for a local soccer club with my business. I sold dozens of these stickers and recreated the go for the club.

I enjoy meeting new people, but there are many things I don't like that people do or say. Overall, these are all very minor things that bug me, but a good look inside the little things that I don't like.
