I was in a graphic arts and design class that I found myself enjoying very much. The class allowed me to be creative and make random things, but I knew I could do more. Instead of creating random and weird projects, I decide I could turn my 4th period class into a business.
I am very active in the soccer community, so I had a market of people I could sell my product to. I started with making costume stickers for cars and this quickly turned into personalized shirts, sweatshirts, and even professional ware. After a couple of months, I was able to make enough to buy my first car, a 98' Honda Civic. A crappy car, but one that could get me from my house to my friends' houses. Once I saw the success of the business I had started, I gave it a name and continued working until I was able to get enough money to buy my computer, gifts for my family, and save for college. EA Custom Stickers was a three year long company, but will forever be what funded my teenage desires.

This class was recommended to me by a friend who said she very much enjoyed this class. I look forward to learning about entrepreneurship and continue thinking about how I can be
Hey man, I like your story, it was a success. I wasn't handed my first car either, I had to save up my own money and buy it, which made me value it a lot more than if it was just given to me. Sometimes in life certain circumstances of hardship, or in other words, not having it too easy forces you down the path of productivity and success like it did in your case, having to start your own little business and getting that experience.
ReplyDeleteHey Edson, I think that says a lot about you that instead of being upset about not having a car, you went and actually did something to get it. Also, I am interested to know how you actually marketed your products and got enough sales revenue to purchase all of your items. Its really cool how you started a business which had organic growth and actually flourished, something that does not happen often. I have a similar story to yours where I also sold things, but mine was strictly E-Bay. Hearing your story makes me want to go out and sell something.
ReplyDeleteHi Edson,
ReplyDeleteThe fact that you started this business in high school just from a drive and motivation to buy a car is outstanding. It helps that you were interested in what you were doing but if you were to keep up that drive in whatever career you are going to pursue, I think you had a great future in store and thats hard to come by now a days. Plus, being creative and artistic are things I am not good at, so I admire people who are.
