Drinking Buddies

For this exercise, I'd like you to do the following:
1) An app for when you want to go out with friends. "Drinking Buddies"
2) When college students go out, we hate having to bring an ID, a credit card, cash, our phone, a second form of ID and much more. As a guy, I hate when girls ask me to cary their stuff, so this is an opportunity to end guys having to carry girls things when we go out. This app would also tell you what the cover is, the wait time, how busy it is, any specials the venue is having, and could possibly even be linked to Uber and have scheduled rides for you and friends.
  • The who: College Students in the US (anyone who goes out to bars or clubs)
  • The what: When people go out they have to bring a lot of things with them which can result in theft, losing things, and just plain annoyance
  • The why: We need several items when going out to club or bars
3) This is your 'hypothesis' about the opportunity. It is a statement of your belief related to an opportunity. I'd like you to test the boundaries of the hypothesis by pushing and prodding each of the three elements. That means:
  • Testing the who: I think college students have more of a need for something like this in college towns, but I am sure that adults and non-college students that go out would enjoy something to help with this.
  • Testing the what: I think a boundary to consider is will clubs and bars be on board with this, so the question is, is it all bars and club, or just some?
  • Testing the why: I think this benefits the consumer more than the bars and clubs. People who hate carrying so many things when going on would enjoy this app because they wouldn't have to do it anymore. The bars and clubs, although not as benefitted, would enjoy this because they could see the consumers ID and second form of ID all on one app that has an ID and other info pre-approved. This would eliminate fake id's a little more.
4) After interviewing people, I found that this is actually a big opportunity for something like this in college towns. I interviewed 4 college students, 2 girls and 2 guys, 2 who go out often and 2 who go out rarely. I also interviewed a 28 year old who is graduated from college and goes out sometimes with friends. The main benefit that the people I interviewed saw from this was the fact that they wouldn't have to carry all of their stuff around. This app would have your credit card, your ID, your second form of ID, and any other info you need when going on. This would make it so you can't lose your credit card, ID or wallet when you go out, it is all on your phone.
The guy and girl who went out often also enjoyed knowing what places were having what deal and how much it was to get in. When I go out, I hate waiting in line and then getting to the door and finding out it is expensive to get in. By knowing how long the line is, the deals being offered, and how busy it is, you can spend more time partying and less time waiting in line to pay an absurd cover.
The guy and girl who do not go out often, said they would enjoy this app because they do not like going out because they are afraid of losing things. Since all the info you will need to get into anywhere will be on this app, there is no fear of losing your wallet or ID anymore.
The 28 year old woman I interviewed also enjoyed knowing what was busy and what wasn't. When she goes out, she isn't always looking for a crazy party scene, but sometimes a calm place to get drinks with friends. Knowing what is busy and what is not you can take your coworkers to a certain place, your ladies to another place, and your date to another place just by knowing what the deals are and how busy it is.
5) One thing not discussed yet is the amount of cooperation this would take from the bars and clubs to be a success. How I would get around this sell the bars and clubs on their benefit of being a supporter of this app. Less ability for people to use fake ID's, easier and faster to ring people up when they buy drinks, and fewer thefts of ID's and wallets. This opportunity is one for the consumer, but I think the bars and clubs can also benefit from something like this in the long run.

Local Problems

I am from Daytona Beach so I took the Daytona Beach News Journal and looked for possible opportunities.

1) Transgender high school student sues Volusia Schools
-This article is about a transgender boy suing my old school district for not letting him use the boys bathroom and locker room.

-This opportunity is more to help people who are going through similar situations. One of the biggest news topics and political questions is behind transgender rights, so what can be done to help this community and possibly create a business out of it. The need here is education for school faculty and staff. A group could offer a service where they have a "learning session" with the teachers where they ask and answer tough questions that teachers are afraid to ask other places.

2) Rolex's modern-day surge
- The main thing people know about Daytona is it's beaches and the Speedway. People who live in Daytona hate race week because you can't leave your house because the traffic is so bad and it is not worth it.

- The problem here is how to better handle race traffic to make it so locals can still get to where they need to go. This would benefit locals and visitors, because both would be stuck in less traffic.

3) Annual homeless count underway
- This article, with its messed up title and all, is about Volusia and Flagler county trying to count exactly how many homeless people there are in the counties. Could have named the article Annual count of homeless PEOPLE underway, but anyways.

- The opportunity here is, and one I think that the survey met well, is providing an incentive for homeless people to take this survey.

4) Felon's rights proposal goes on November ballot
-This article is about how Rick Scott is being Rick Scott and has done very little to  help anyone, in this case felons. Felons can go in front of a board, including Rick Scott, and ask for their right to vote back. Scott has allowed a couple of hundred in his first term to get their rights back, while Charlie Crist allowed 1500 in his terms (not exact numbers but I just watched something about it).

-The opportunity here is for lawyers. Once this bill is passed by the good people of Florida, there will be a high high high high high demand for all the felons that Rick Scott has denied to get their rights back and I am sure there will be push back from the State so lawyers and other representatives will be needed to help these people get their voting rights back.

5) All DeLand police officers using body cameras
-This article is about, you guessed it, Deland police officers using body cameras.

-The opportunity here was actually prior to the cameras, which was how to proof when a cop is doing something right and when they are doing something wrong. Body cameras were able to plug that opportunity and will now leave police officers safe to false accusations, and citizens safe to possible mistakes made by police. Both parties win!

OH SH*T BREAKS

1) A problem I see around me is there are a lot of fender benders and just crashes in general. When I am driving I find it hard to judge if the person in front of me is either slamming their brakes or just lightly hitting on them. (Solution to problem will be shared at the bottom)

2) The unmet need is something to indicate when someone is car is slamming their breaks to differentiate from when they are just hitting on their breaks for now good reason. This need is for everyone, but mainly for bad drivers who can't decide if they need to gradually hit their breaks or hit them as hard as they can to screw over the person behind them. This need is fairly new considering cars aren't hundreds of years old. I feel that people are content with how cars are functioning for the most part. We keep adding shiny tires and lights under the car, but no one has changed the brakes in a hot minute. Before the seat belt, everyone probably thought the car was safe enough. Before back up cameras, everyone probably thought they could see behind them. And now, everyone is content with one signal for break lights. I am 100% that this opportunity exists but very few people will support it because everyone thinks break lights are ok and don't need to be changed.

3) The prototypical costumer is really every person with a drivers license. Therefore, I think it would be best for a person from a variety of age ranges would be representative of a quality prototypical costumer base. Some youngsters who drive crazy, some moms who drive safe, and some old people and are not as "good" at driving.

4) My costumers have asked to stay confidential for the sake of their safety. Their names have been changed and voices altered...

-Cruzin' Chris - Age 22 - Male - Consideres himself a fast driver
When "Cruzin' Chris", will be called Chris for this, was asked about this need his first response was "I just rear ended someone last week!". Chris believes that break lights do not tell you how fast someone is slowing down and therefore caused him to misjudge how fast he needed to slow down which caused him to hit the car in front of him last week. Chris said he never really thought about break lights not being an efficient enough way to indicate stopping until he got in his crash. Cruzin' Chris believes there is an opportunity for something to improve the break lights on cars.

-Margret the Mom - Age 38 - Female - Hunks at people who cut her off
Margret the Mom, when first asked about her thought on break lights, felt she didn't look at people's break lights because she can see over all the cars in her Escalade. When asked if she felt there was a need for improvement, she did not think so and felt break lights were just fine.

- Grandpa Garfield - Age 84 - Male - Doesn't drive much
Grandpa Garfield doesn't drive much because of his age, but feels break lights are not of his concern. Didn't really care about break lights and said he never really thought about them

5) I learned actually what I already knew, people are, for the most part, content with how current break lights work because they just don't care. If it's not broken why fix it they say, but I respond with if it's not the best, why not make it better. Hundreds and thousands of people die in car crashes each year, and what if I told you a couple of dollar change in break lights could shrink that number tremendously, interesting right...

7) My original opportunity is still there, and I believe my solution is brilliant and just needs more people to believe in it. In the end, break lights won't become a problem until people start realizing we can do better. Alright so here is the solution...

You or a loved one ever been rear ended or hit someone else from behind in a car??? Well, this will never happen again with "OH SH*T BREAKS"! We all know red lights on the back of a car mean stop, but what about blue lights??? Never slam your breaks again for someone who keeps pressing their breaks on the highway for now good reason at all, just keep riding their tail till they leave the fast line. Ever scared the person in front of you will slam their breaks, but then you get around them and there's no one in sight, well never again! The new and blue "OH SH*T BREAKS" let you know if you actually need to slam your breaks or if you can relax and just keep on driving.

The End...

Assignment 3A – Your Entrepreneurship Story

Like most 15 year olds, I was itching to get my license and drive to wherever I wanted. Unfortunately, I had no car, no money, and parents that were not going to just give me a car. When I put on my sweetest face and sucked up to my parents begging for a car, all they said was "you can buy it yourself." So, I did what any kid would do, I started my own business.

I was in a graphic arts and design class that I found myself enjoying very much. The class allowed me to be creative and make random things, but I knew I could do more. Instead of creating random and weird projects, I decide I could turn my 4th period class into a business.

I am very active in the soccer community, so I had a market of people I could sell my product to. I started with making costume stickers for cars and this quickly turned into personalized shirts, sweatshirts, and even professional ware. After a couple of months, I was able to make enough to buy my first car, a 98' Honda Civic. A crappy car, but one that could get me from my house to my friends' houses. Once I saw the success of the business I had started, I gave it a name and continued working until I was able to get enough money to buy my computer, gifts for my family, and save for college. EA Custom Stickers was a three year long company, but will forever be what funded my teenage desires.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

This class was recommended to me by a friend who said she very much enjoyed this class. I look forward to learning about entrepreneurship and continue thinking about how I can be

an entrepreneur in whatever I do. I've attached a screenshot of a project I worked on for a local soccer club with my business. I sold dozens of these stickers and recreated the go for the club.

I enjoy meeting new people, but there are many things I don't like that people do or say. Overall, these are all very minor things that bug me, but a good look inside the little things that I don't like.
